The god of obstacles
Ganesh The Lord of Wisdom
REFLECTIONS

The god of obstacles, Lord Vighneshwara, has four arms, as many as his inner equipment. He holds a lasso in one hand, in another hand he holds an axe. By his axe, he cuts the attachments of his devotees to the world of manifoldness; by his lasso, he brings them closer and closer to the Truth and at last he ties them tightly to their highest duty. In his third hand he is holding a sweet to show that he provides his devotees with the joys of sadhana, the spiritual discipline; by his fourth hand he blesses and protects them from every obstacle on their spiritual path to the divine.
On the spiritual path, the objective and subjective world of the seeker create all obstacles. His obstacles are the attachment to the world of objects, emotions, and thoughts.
Vighneshwara cuts them off by his axe and by his lasso in his left hand, he ties the disciple to a highest level of consciousness, but he does not omit to involve the disciple through spiritual subtle experiences. Moreover, he grants advancements until the disciple himself will become the master of obstacles, Vighneshwara.
