We held lofty ideals and dreamed of a new world where the private, human dimension could intersect with the collective, political one. We began organising many meetings, even with workers, discussing everything from psychological and sexual issues to economic problems. In reality, it was a very difficult undertaking, and we often saw the resurgence of old methods and crystallised theories, disconnected from people and life itself. We threw ourselves into a frantic, neurotic activism, holding endless meetings filled with nothing but words and theories, or we engaged in empty, useless populism outside factories, knowing nothing of the economic reality. We were desperately missing something.
