... I spent the rest of the day with Alice, completely absorbed in her presence. At the evening darshan, I brought gifts for Babaji: a velvet jacket and five garlands of flowers, as if to atone for my recent distraction.
He playfully rubbed the flowers on my face, then tossed them into the air with funny movements of His body; the mala, as it scattered, gave me a strange feeling—the awareness of the transience of reality, the impermanence of all things.
It struck me especially in what concerned me most at that moment—Alice. Was it perhaps a sign that this story could not continue, an invitation not to stray from what was eternal?
