The old and the new

I had set out on the right path, yet within me there arose a struggle between the new that wanted to emerge and the old that refused to disappear. When such a conflict arises, the final victory is certain, but how many distractions make us deviate from our purpose! How many illusions prevent us from knowing our true nature! And how much suffering is scattered along the path that leads to God.

To walk that path requires effort—and effort brings pain—because we have long lived without awareness.
