Resurrection

The avatar is the perfect model for man’s spiritual rebirth. The teaching of the doctrine of the avatar gives man the possibility of transcending earthly reality and establishing divine law on earth. The phenomenon of descent is closely connected with the ascent of man. In this way, Hindu philosophy reveals two aspects of divine formation: “One is the descent, the divine birth within the human race, when divinity reveals itself in human form and nature: this is the eternal avatar; the other is an ascent, the birth of man into divinity: man rises to the divine and becomes one with Him, beyond the cycle of karmic rebirth.” (Aurobindo)
