A surge of happiness swept over me so strongly that I felt compelled to pour some of it onto the old man: I literally lifted him off the ground and carried him piggyback! It had occurred to me that, at his age, the walk might tire him, so I wanted to spare him some effort. I later learned that Prem Baba often climbed high, difficult peaks without the slightest fatigue, leaving far younger people behind. The scene was taken with good humor by both him and the others.

After a while, he gestured that he wanted to get down. I thought he was tired, but instead he settled directly onto my shoulders, legs dangling. The new position gave me more freedom of movement, and I broke into a kind of gallop; the amused rider pulled a trumpet from his bag and accompanied my steps with shrill blasts. I was having the time of my life, and everyone around us was doubled over with laughter.
